What is a Welded Metal Bellows?


A welded metal bellows is a zero leakage dynamic seal capable of a great range of motion.

The metal bellows is manufactured from sheet stock. The material of construction may be stainless steel, high nickel alloys, titanium or other alloys to suit the application requirements. The material thickness may range from 0.001” to 0.025” thick.

The first step is to stamp diaphragms – a male and a female diaphragm. A male and female diaphragm are then welded together at the inside diameter to create a single convolution. Convolutions are stacked together and welded at the outside diameter to create the bellows capsule.

Bellows diameters range from 0.125” OD to 23” OD.  Larger sizes may also be designed and manufactured.

Welded Metal Bellows are suitable for extreme temperatures and corrosive environments.
